This course will develop student's ability to translate emotional and dramatic content into personal dance performances of an increasingly complex range of combinations and variations.
Students will recognize and enhance their personal movement style and individual creative process in order to develop choreographic phrases. Ideas, themes, and concepts related to dance composition will be explored. Observation, discussion, and writing skills relevant to interpretation and evaluation of choreography will be refined.
Students will complete in-class showings, teach intermediate students combinations and routines, and a perform a final showcase of personally choreographed dances. Students will plan and rehearse for a series of public performances
Additionally, students will complete a professional portfolio documenting their work, their job shadow or internship experience, and their community outreach projects will will involve partnerships with elementary students or students with special needs.
The lecture/CTE component of the course will involve direct instruction related to the key assignments as well as genre related dance history lessons, dance anatomy lessons, lessons on nutrition, educational videos and readings from the class reader. In addition, master classes will expose students to different instructional styles and offer a multicultural experience.

Community of Dance: Outreach project with Sonoma County Schools
Internship or job shadow experience: Students will research various careers in dance . They will find or be placed with a local dance organization, dance company, or dance studio and spend 10 hours in a job shadow or rehearsal observation. These hours must be completed after school and during weekend. Each student will be partnered with a mentor in the industry to interview regarding their profession, and observe.

Choreographic Analysis [Honors]: Students will create a multimedia presentation demonstrating the application of choreographic devices in professional dances
