Introduction to Dance Arts: Students learn the fundamentals of Ballet-based, American dance styles and gain a foundational understanding of basic genre-specific technique, dance vocabulary, dance history, and the role of dance in the Arts, Media, and Entertainment industry.
Intermediate Dance Arts: Students work towards becoming technically proficient in Ballet-based, American dance styles, demonstrate proficiency in application of dance vocabulary, and develop dance portfolios. Students investigate different dance-related careers the Arts, Media, and Entertainment industry, participate in community outreach, and perform in a live stage performance.
Advanced Dance Arts [Honors]: Students work towards mastery in Ballet-based, American dance styles, demonstrate mastery of dance vocabulary, and apply their knowledge of dance to the choreographic process and a unique body of work. Students investigate different dance-related careers the Arts, Media, and Entertainment industry, participate in community outreach, choreograph, plan, and perform in a live stage performance.
Participation/Performance: “Participation” includes your level of engagement in movement explorations and discussions; coming to class prepared with notebook in hand; completing assignments by deadlines; and commitment, cooperation, enthusiasm, and effort throughout the semester. Consistent attendance is a must! Also, you must come to class with appropriate dress (SCHOOL DRESS CODE ENFORCED) . Always have loose or stretchy fitting clothing. We will be most often be dancing barefoot, in socks, or in jazz/ballet shoes EXCEPT during the Hip Hop Unit.
